Dylan Hermansen

Dylan Hermansen is an accomplished and dedicated music instructor at Sound Studios Olympia, bringing a rich tapestry of experience from his successful career as a professional musician.  With over a decade of expertise in the music and entertainment industry, Dylan has masterfully cultivated his skills as both a performer and educator.

Holding an Associates of Arts degree from South Puget Sound Community College and a Bachelor of Arts from The Evergreen State College, Dylan’s academic focus on music composition, production, and education provides a robust foundation for his innovative teaching approach.  His professional journey includes impressive work as a cruise ship musician, where he excelled in leadership roles such as Assistant Musical Director and Musical Director.

Dylan’s musical talents have garnered significant recognition throughout his career.  His accolades include multiple “Best Soloist” awards from various jazz festivals during his high school years and the prestigious Louis Armstrong Jazz Award.  Dylan’s artistic contributions extend beyond performance, encompassing eight self-released albums and notable studio work, including a collaboration on a project that went on to win Jazz Album of the Year in San Diego.

As a passionate instructor, Dylan specializes in a wide range of instruments and musical concepts.  His expertise covers woodwinds (saxophones, flute, clarinet, and bass clarinet), piano, guitar, music theory, jazz theory, composition, and improvisation.  Dylan’s teaching philosophy uniquely centers on understanding theory through the circle of fifths and the chromatic circle, emphasizing the interconnectedness of discrete musical elements.

Dylan approaches each lesson with enthusiasm and dedication, firmly believing that mastery begins with a solid grasp of fundamentals.  He understands the exponential nature of learning and prioritizes building a secure foundation, ensuring his students’ trajectory of musical growth and development flourish.  His commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a love for music makes Dylan an invaluable asset to the Sound Studios Olympia team and an inspiring mentor to his students.
