Music Lessons in Olympia

Lyndi Knox | Instructor

Lyndi Knox (she/her) is a professional clarinetist and teacher, native to the Pacific Northwest. Lyndi is the Professor of Clarinet at Pierce College, Puyallup. She also enjoys working with young children as a Kindermusik educator at Kiddos and Kin in Tacoma. Lyndi earned a Masters degree in Clarinet Performance from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Clarinet Performance from Pacific Lutheran University. Lyndi enjoys working with students of all ages, from the youngest children she works with at Kindermusik, to the enthusiastic adult.  A proponent of individualized teaching, Lyndi's teaching philosophy provides students with tools to control the mechanism of the clarinet, so that they may better express their inner artistry. Through individual goal-driven education students will study scales, arpeggios and etudes, as well as fundamentals of ear training and intonation. She believes that by providing students with a solid technical foundation, they will have more freedom in their playing. Being well aware of the lack of representation for minority groups in the classical music world, Lyndi is committed to educating herself and providing diverse resources in addition to the standard repertoire for her students. This means seeking out lesser-known and performed clarinet works and method books by composers of color and women, amongst others, to utilize in her teaching. Lyndi is thrilled to join the team at Sound Studios Olympia for the opportunity collaborate with other teachers to create a fruitful learning environment for her students.
