Music Lessons in Olympia
Cody Raynor | Instructor
I started playing the trombone in 2001. In 2008 I toured Europe with the Washington Ambassadors of Music. In 2009, I auditioned for and made it into the All-State Concert Band and the PLU Honor Band. That year I graduated from Puyallup High School with honors and received several awards, most notably, the Directors Award. I then went on to study at Pierce Community College where I received an AA degree in music in 2011. From there I transferred to PLU where I made it into the music program and studied to become a band director. While there, I played in the PLU Jazz Band as well as the Wind Ensemble, Trombone Choir, an avante garde group and the PLU Brass Quintet. I taught trombone at Camp Arnold in Eatonville,WA in the spring of 2012. In the summer of 2012 I volunteered as the assistant trombone instructor at Marrowstone in the City in north Seattle. I also took composition lessons at PLU for a short time. Meanwhile, I worked as a student mentor at James Sales Elementary in Tacoma,WA.
Outside of college, I played in several bands, including the Geriatric Jazz Ensemble and Never Mind(a prog rock group). I also started writing music. In the summer of 2013 I toured Australia with the PLU Wind Ensemble. After that I transferred to The Evergreen State College where I studied electronic composition and audio engineering. While there I worked as an TA at Garfield Elementary in Olympia,WA. I graduated from TESC with a BA in music in the summer of 2014. The following year, I taught myself guitar, and ukulele. Using some of the money I earned doing maintenance, I bought recording equipment and made my first album. I wrote, recorded, and performed all songs. In the summer of 2015 I played with The Green Room, which is a reggae band based in Olympia. Since then I have been working on developing a career to finance my passion for music. I am so excited to get back into it and I look forward to working with Sound Studios!
